The Club was started in 1985 by a group who met at the Hereford Yacht Master course and wanted a boat to provide affordable offshore sailing
A Sadler 32,Callisto of Dart was bought from the late David Corbett of Shobdon with a combination of shares and marine mortgage. She was based at Torquay, moved to Dartmouth and finally Plymouth, was cruised extensively and had many adventures including dismasting in the Channel Islands. She was retired after 15 years having provided great sailing at a budget price.
In 2000 a Sigma 362, Ceilidh of Oban was acquired from the sale of Callisto and a new marine mortgage. She was much loved and added to the Club’s cruising experience, sailing to Ireland, Spain, Holland and Scotland, including St Kilda and the Three Peaks Race.
In 2008 the Club moved up a gear and acquired a Dehler 39, Auburn Lass – a six / eight berth cruiser / racer with all mod cons. She has been based in Plymouth which gives great access to the Devon and Cornish coast and is very handy for the Channel Islands and Brittany. In the past six years she has cruised to Brittany, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and Scotland and completed the Three Peaks Race. In 2014 she was moved to South Wales to give easier access to Ireland and Scotland. The Scottish season was very successful, blessed with fine weather. In 2015 she cruised the Normandy Coast, and in the summer of 2016 she was based in Dunstaffnage near Oban. She overwinters in Penarth, Cardiff and the home port for 2017 will be Plymouth Yacht Haven.
